Nigel Parr

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Auckland

BSc, BDS (Otago), MBChB (Otago), MDS (Otago), FRCS (Edin.), FFDRCS (Irel.)

Nigel is a New Zealand-trained Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He is qualified both Dentally and Medically.

He graduated from the University of Otago with a Dental Degree, a Medical Degree and a Masters in Oral Surgery.

He also spent several years extending his training and surgical experience in the UK in surgical training programmes where he obtained two fellowships to the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and Ireland.

This experience has given him the specialised skills to carry out many intricate procedures within the head, jaw and neck region, especially in relation to wisdom teeth, dentoalveolar surgery, oral cancer and other oral pathology.

Upon his return to New Zealand in 2000, Nigel worked as a full-time consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Auckland and Middlemore Hospitals. He soon started to develop his private practice and developed a role as a visiting consultant at Whangarei Hospital before establishing in 2008, his own purpose-built day surgery facility in Green Lane East.

In 2010 Nigel voluntarily undertook to have his practice Accredited to NZ Day-Stay Surgery and Procedure Standards. This was to ensure that the building and installed quality systems relating to patient care are maintained to the highest levels of quality and safety standards.

Today, Nigel now works solely in private practice at his purpose-built rooms in Green Lane East providing Oral Surgery procedures under intravenous sedation. He also has appointments at Quay Park Surgical Centre and Ormiston Hospital for those patients requiring general anaesthesia.

Marie Barron

Form & Function

Marie Barron is a Registered Nurse who works as a Surgical Nurse with Nigel Parr and has developed her own injectables clinic: Facial Form and Function, which offers Botulinum Toxin treatment to assist with the relief of facial pain, headaches, jaw joint pain caused by jaw clenching and grinding of the teeth.

Facial Form and Function also offers cosmetic Botulinum toxin treatment for facial aesthetics, frown lines, crows’ feet and forehead lines.

Sometimes due to life stresses, illness or some medications our muscles can be tense or tight. We believe with an effective treatment plan you can achieve longer-lasting pain management and prevention of future Jaw joint (TMJ) or tooth damage. Patients that often see Nigel Parr for Jaw pain end up with a treatment plan that includes referral to Marie for Botulinum Toxin treatment.

Botulinum Toxin limits the contraction of the Masseter muscles leading to less clenching and grinding of the teeth.

Over time, the treatment can help break the habit of clenching, leading to less future treatments and less teeth and Jaw joint damage.

Botulinum Toxin is temporary, lasting around 4-6 months, but when used in the Masseter muscle can reduce hyper muscle activity allowing you to create new healthy muscle habits, resulting in less treatment over time.
